Quick answer

A government fire post's pay is a cell in a pay matrix. A new Air Force or DRDO fireman starts at Level 2, Rs 19,900 basic, and with DA at 60% from 1 January 2026 draws Rs 31,840 a month in basic plus DA. Each year moves the basic one cell down the level, so after 10 years at Level 2 it is Rs 26,800.

Odisha's Fireman also starts at Rs 19,900 (its Level 4) with the same 60% DA, and its Leading Fireman at Rs 23,600. Pick the employer and post below for the cell, the DA and, for central posts, the HRA your city class carries. Private fire safety officers have no official scale.

How the calculator works out fire service pay, in 5 steps

  1. Find the post's level

The recruitment rules or the notice fix it: Level-2 for an Air Force Fireman, Level-5 for its Station Officer, Level-4 for an Odisha Fireman. An older notice may print a grade pay instead; Grade Pay 2000 sits at Level 3 in the matrix header.

  2. Count the cells

Each level has 40 cells. A new joiner is in cell 1; one increment a year moves the pay one cell down, on 1 January or 1 July in central service and 12 months after the last one in Odisha.

  3. Apply the DA order

DA is a percentage of basic pay only. The Centre raised it from 58% to 60% from 1 January 2026, and Odisha matched it from the same date by its order of 18 May 2026. Rupees are rounded: 50 paise and above up, the rest dropped.

  4. Add HRA where it is drawn

Central HRA is 30%, 20% or 10% of basic in X, Y and Z cities once DA is above 50%, with floors of Rs 5,400, Rs 3,600 and Rs 1,800. It is shown on its own, not inside basic plus DA.

  5. Leave the rest to the pay office

Transport allowance, fire or risk allowances, overtime and deductions such as NPS and income tax each come from separate orders, so the calculator does not guess them.

Word for word

The rates of HRA will be revised to 27% 18% & 9% for X, Y & Z class cities respectively when Dearness Allowance (DA) crosses 25% and further revised to 30%, 20% & 10% when DA crosses 50%.

Department of Expenditure, OM No. 2/5/2017-E.II(B), 7 July 2017, para 3 DoE HRA order

Central DA stood at 58% and then 60% under the orders of October 2025 and April 2026, so the calculator uses 30%, 20% and 10%. Para 2 of the same order keeps HRA at no less than Rs 5,400, Rs 3,600 and Rs 1,800.

Which option to pick in the salary calculator

Pick by who pays you, not by the post's name: a Station Officer in the Air Force and one in a state are on different rules.

  1. IfYour appointment letter names a 7th CPC level but not one of the listed posts

Pick Central government and the bare Pay Level 1 to 10 row; the cells are the same for every central post on that level. 7th CPC pay matrix

  2. IfYou are a Delhi Fire Service Fire Operator

Pick Delhi Fire Service and type the DA rate from your pay slip; the level is Level 3. DSSSB Advt 04/19

  3. IfYou are on an Odisha fire rank

Pick Odisha Fire Service; the DA box starts at 60%, Odisha's rate from 1 January 2026. Odisha DA order 2026

  4. IfYou work at an airport for AAI

Pick AAI for the entry basic of the NE-4 or E-3 scale and the 35% perks the notice states. AAI NR 01/2025

What to have ready before you use the salary calculator

Four things from your own papers make the answer match your pay slip.

  • Your pay level, from the appointment letter or the recruitment notice (for example Level-2 or Level-4). Odisha Group C rules
  • The number of increments drawn since joining or since the last promotion; each one is a cell. DoE increment OM
  • The DA rate on your latest pay slip, if your employer is not the Centre or Odisha. DoE DA order 2026
  • Your posting city's X, Y or Z class, from your office, for central HRA. DoE HRA order

Reading the salary calculator's answer

Three uses the answer supports and three it does not, under the orders of 2017 and 2026.

Do

  • Treat basic plus DA as the part of pay fixed by the matrix and the DA order of 22 April 2026. DoE DA order 2026
  • Change the DA box when a new order is issued; the July 2026 instalment was not ordered on 29 October 2026. DoE DA order 2026
  • Move to the new level's row after a promotion; the first increment there needs 6 months' qualifying service. DoE increment OM

Don’t

  • Do not read basic plus DA as in-hand pay: NPS, income tax and other deductions are not in it.
  • Do not add HRA if you live in government quarters or your office does not pay it. DoE HRA order
  • Do not use the Odisha rows for another state: each state has its own matrix and DA order. Odisha RSP Rules 2017

Where the salary calculator stops and why

It prints a figure only where an official matrix, level and DA order were read. These are the gaps and what to do about each.

  • If CISF Constable/Fire and DCPO

CISF's recruitment page prints no pay level, and the 2024 notification was not on CISF's own portal on 29 October 2026. Read the level in the notice of your intake. CISF recruitment

  • If AAI fire posts

AAI pays on IDA scales (NE-4 Rs 31,000-3%-92,000 for Junior Assistant, E-3 Rs 60,000-1,80,000 for Manager). Industrial DA comes from Department of Public Enterprises orders, which were not read, so only the entry basic and the notice's 35% perks are shown. AAI NR 01/2025

  • If Delhi DA

Delhi's Fire Operator is on the central matrix, but Delhi's own DA order for 2026 was not read. Type the DA rate from your pay slip. DSSSB Advt 04/19

  • If DA from 1 July 2026

No Department of Expenditure order for the July 2026 instalment existed on 29 October 2026, so the calculator uses 60%. Change the DA box when the order is issued. DoE DA order 2026

  • If Other states

Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and the rest are not in the calculator because their fire posts' level or their DA order was not read. The salary page lists the state scales that notices print. AP SLPRB

  • If Private fire safety officers

The OSH Code and its rules fix qualification and duties, not pay. The employer sets it. OSH Central Rules 2026

Questions about the fire service salary calculator

How is a fireman's salary per month worked out?

Take the post's level, read the cell for your years of service, then add DA at the current rate. A new central Level 2 fireman has Rs 19,900 basic and, at 60% DA, Rs 11,940 DA: Rs 31,840 before HRA, other allowances and deductions.

What is the DA rate for fire service staff in 2026?

60% of basic pay from 1 January 2026 for central staff (DoE order of 22 April 2026) and for Odisha staff (Odisha order of 18 May 2026). The instalment due from 1 July 2026 had not been ordered on 29 October 2026.

Does the calculator give in-hand salary?

No. It gives basic, DA and, for central posts, HRA, each from an official order. In-hand pay also depends on other allowances and on deductions such as NPS, income tax and group insurance, which differ person to person.

How much does pay rise each year?

One cell a year, about 3%: at Level 2 the basic goes from Rs 19,900 to Rs 20,500, then Rs 21,100. Central staff get the increment on 1 January or 1 July; Odisha staff 12 months after the last one.

Is HRA paid to firemen in government quarters?

The HRA order the calculator reads gives the rates by city class, not the rules for quarters. Leave the city class at Not drawn if you live in government accommodation, and check with your office.

Why does the calculator not show CISF pay?

CISF's recruitment page prints no pay level for Constable/Fire or DCPO, and the 2024 notification was not on CISF's own portal when Flamekite read it. Flamekite does not print a level from coaching or job sites.
