Rates are the total GST: half central tax and half state tax within a state, or the same total as integrated tax between states.

A reading of the notifications, not tax advice. Classification is the supplier's call, and a GST officer or an advance ruling can decide it differently.

How to find the HSN code and GST rate for a fire item, in 5 steps

  1. Name what it is made of and does

A hose is classified by material (textile 5909, rubber 4009, plastic 3917), a door by steel (7308) or wood (4418), a pump by drive.

  2. Find the heading

Search the finder; each row gives the 4-digit heading the notification names.

  3. Read the entry's words

The schedule entry's description decides; a bracket such as "[other than sprinklers]" moves an item to another schedule.

  4. Check for a split

Where the finder shows two rows, read when each applies before you invoice.

  5. Apply the rate

Within a state, half as central tax and half as state tax; between states, the whole rate as integrated tax.

Where the HSN and GST finder stops

It reads the rate entries; it does not classify your product for you.

  • If You need the 8-digit tariff item

The notifications name 4-digit headings. Flamekite could not open CBIC's Customs Tariff chapters in a readable form, so no 8-digit item is shown; check the tariff before you file. GST Notification 9/2025

  • If A fire sprinkler head

The Schedule I 5% entry for sprinklers does not say whether fire sprinklers are meant. Take advice or an advance ruling. GST Notification 9/2025

  • If Training that may be exempt

Notification 12/2017 exempts some education services; Flamekite has not checked which fire courses it covers. GST Notification 11/2017

  • If Government works contracts

Serial 3 lists concessional rates for some contracts with government bodies; the finder shows only the general 18% item (xii). GST Notification 11/2017

  • If An item not in the list

The finder says so instead of guessing. Ask us, or read the schedules of 9/2025 for its heading. GST Notification 9/2025
