Overview

The Airports Authority of India hires Junior Assistant (Fire Services), pay level NE-4, region by region. Two notices were read: Advt 01/2025/NR (Northern Region, 152 posts, applications 4 February to 5 March 2025) and Advt 01/2025/DR/NER (North Eastern Region, 7 posts, 12 December 2025 to 11 January 2026). Both had closed by 26 October 2026.

Stage 1 is a 2-hour computer-based test, half on subjects of your qualification and half on general knowledge, intelligence, aptitude and English, with no negative marking. Stage 2 is documents, measurements, medical, a driving test and a five-event endurance test that qualifies at 60 of 100 marks. Merit is the test score alone.

Neither notice prints a topic-wise syllabus, a question count or marks per subject. This page says so, maps the fire-service topics a candidate needs to the Flamekite pages that teach them, and ends with 28 practice questions that each rest on a clause.

This page reports the AAI notices as printed, read on 26 October 2026, and is not a vacancy board: both notices are closed, so check aai.aero before you plan. The topic map and the quiz are Flamekite's own preparation aids, not AAI's syllabus. Practice questions come from the standards and the aerodrome rules listed, not from past papers.

AAI Junior Assistant fire service selection, stage by stage

  1. Apply online only

Both notices accept applications only through www.aai.aero under Careers, with the fee paid online. Hard copies are not accepted.

  2. Sit the computer-based test

A 2-hour objective test. Half the questions test the subjects of your qualification, half test general knowledge, intelligence, aptitude and English. Pass marks are 50% for UR, EWS and OBC and 40% for SC and ST.

  3. Biometrics, documents and driving licence

Shortlisted candidates face biometric attendance and certificate verification, including the driving licence in original. A learner or temporary licence is not accepted.

  4. Physical measurement and medical

Height, chest, weight and eyesight are measured first; only those who clear the medical go on to the driving test.

  5. Driving test in a light motor vehicle

Held for candidates holding a valid LMV, medium or heavy vehicle licence in original. Only on passing it is a candidate allowed the endurance test.

  6. Physical endurance test

Five events in sequence, 20 marks each, qualifying at 60 of 100. Ex-Agniveers are exempt from this stage only. There is no second attempt.

  7. Merit list and Basic Training Course

The merit list uses the computer-based test marks only. Selected candidates go to an 18-week Basic Training Course; the appointment order follows its successful completion.

AAI Junior Assistant fire service eligibility: education, licence and age

The notices ask for a school or diploma route, a driving licence of a set grade and age 30 or under, with relaxations for reserved categories.

Education is the 10th pass plus a 3-year approved regular Diploma in Mechanical, Automobile or Fire, or the 12th pass (regular study). The North Eastern notice gives due weightage to Computer Science at 12th class level, an NCC B certificate, experience in an aviation, regular or industrial fire service, the AAI basic fire fighting course, and the Sub-Fire Officer course of the National Fire Service College, Nagpur.

The driving licence is a gate, not a bonus. A heavy vehicle licence qualifies outright. A medium vehicle licence must be at least 1 year old, and a light motor vehicle licence at least 2 years old, on the advertisement date. Holders of the last two must obtain a heavy vehicle licence within 1 year of appointment. If they do not, probation is extended by one year, they are not confirmed and their increments are withheld, and service ends if the licence is not obtained within 2 years.

Disabled candidates are not eligible for this post because of the nature of the job, as the North Eastern notice states.

Age relaxation above the 30-year limit, as both notices print it.

AAI fire service physical standards: height, chest, weight and eyes

Both notices print the same measurements, the same eyesight bar and the same disqualifiers. Colour or night blindness is a rejection criterion.

Height
Not less than 167 cm for men and 157 cm for women. Hilly-area candidates get 3 cm relaxation on production of a bona fide certificate; no other category does. AAI NR 01/2025
Chest (men only)
81 cm before expansion with a minimum expansion of 5 cm. It is not applicable to women. The 3 cm relaxation for hilly areas applies to chest, but the 5 cm expansion stays. AAI NR 01/2025
Weight
Not less than 55 kg for men and 45 kg for women, with proportionate relaxation for hilly-area candidates. AAI NR 01/2025
Eyesight
Distance vision 6/6 in each eye without glasses and near vision N5 in each eye without glasses. Colour vision normal on Ishihara charts, night blindness absent, full field of vision on the confrontation test, and no refractive error is acceptable. AAI NR 01/2025
Disqualifying conditions
Knock knee, bow legs, a degree of squint, flat feet, physical deformity, chronic disease, or a major operation that has impaired fitness to work in fire service. AAI NR 01/2025

AAI fire service physical endurance test: marks by event

The five events carry 20 marks each and the test qualifies at 60 of 100. Marks are not pro-rata, so a man who carries the sand bag 50 m in 35 seconds scores 12 for that event.

Men carry a 50 kg bag and women a 30 kg bag, 25 m out and back. Rope and pole height is 8 m for men and 6 m for women (the notice adds 2 m to 6 and 4). The ladder is pitched at 6 m. The rope is 5 cm jute or manila. No second attempt.

AAI Junior Assistant fire service exam pattern, as printed

The computer-based test lasts 2 hours and is objective, with no negative mark for a wrong answer. The notices do not publish a topic-wise syllabus, the number of questions or the marks per subject, so none is stated here.

AAI Junior Assistant fire service syllabus: topic map

The notices name two areas, each worth 50% of the test. The fire-service topics below are Flamekite's map of what the qualification half can cover; the notice does not list them.

AAI fire service exam preparation plan from the pattern

Flamekite’s working from the official rules; no government publishes this figure.

This is Flamekite's estimate from what the notices print, not AAI advice: 2 hours, two equal halves, and no printed question count.

  • Split study time in two equal halves, as the 50% and 50% split of the 2-hour test suggests, and sit timed practice of 60 minutes for each half. AAI NR 01/2025
  • Treat the qualification half as the 10th plus diploma or the 12th: decide whether your route is Mechanical, Automobile, Fire or school science, and revise that subject first. The notice lists no topics. AAI NR 01/2025
  • Use the topic map above to add fire-service basics: extinguisher classes and bands, hydrants, alarms and sprinklers. Check yourself with the 28 questions and read each clause behind a wrong answer. IS 2190:2024
  • Do not spend marks on negative-marking tactics: the notices say there is none, so answer every question. AAI NR 01/2025
  • Check the 167 cm, 81 cm with 5 cm expansion and 55 kg standards (men), or 157 cm and 45 kg (women), before you invest in the test. AAI NR 01/2025
  • Train for the printed marks: a man needs 16 s or better for 100 m and a woman 19 s, or the event scores zero. Aim for 12 s and 15 s for full marks. AAI NR 01/2025
  • Check the driving licence grade and its issue date against the advertisement date well before the notice; a learner licence is not accepted. AAI NR 01/2025

AAI fire service recruitment: fee, stipend and bond

Money items printed in the notices: a 1,000 rupee fee for most categories, a 25,000 rupee monthly stipend in training, and a bond that falls to nil after 3 years.

As published

  • Application fee, General, EWS and OBCRs 1,000Excluding bank charges; not refunded under any circumstances AAI NR 01/2025
  • Application fee, women, SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen, AAI apprentices of 1 yearNil AAI NR 01/2025
  • Stipend during the Basic Training CourseRs 25,000 a month18 weeks, 2 of them on heavy vehicle maintenance and driving AAI NR 01/2025
  • Bond recovery: resignation in the first month of trainingNilBetween 1 and 2 months Rs 50,000; 2 to 3 months Rs 75,000; later in training Rs 1 lakh AAI NR 01/2025
  • Bond recovery: resignation within 1 year after trainingRs 3 lakh1 to 2 years Rs 2 lakh; 2 to 3 years Rs 1 lakh; beyond 3 years nil AAI NR 01/2025

The bond runs from the date of joining and is enforceable after one month of service. Pay is Rs 31,000-3%-92,000 at NE-4.

AAI Junior Assistant fire service: what the notices settle

Coaching and portal pages repeat claims the two notices do not make. These four are settled by the notices.

  • You may have read

AAI publishes a fixed syllabus and question count for the fire post.

    Myth

    What the sources say

Neither notice prints a topic-wise syllabus, question count or marks per subject. It prints only the 50% and 50% split of a 2-hour test. AAI NR 01/2025

    A wrong answer costs marks.

    Myth

    What the sources say

Both notices state there is no negative mark for a wrong answer in the objective computer-based test. AAI NR 01/2025

  • You may have read

The endurance test score decides your rank.

    Myth

    What the sources say

Any licence, including a learner permit, will do.

    Myth

    What the sources say

What Flamekite could not confirm about the AAI fire service exam

Five gaps in the notices and in what Flamekite read. None is filled by a guess or a coaching claim.

  • If The number of questions, marks per subject and the topic-wise syllabus are not in either notice.

Read the exam information AAI posts on aai.aero before the test; ignore any pattern that is not from AAI. AAI NR 01/2025
