Overview
This bank holds 42 multiple-choice questions on the Petroleum Rules, 2002, in four sets: classes and definitions (10), licences and exemptions (11), storage and safety (10), and transport and fees (11). Every explanation names the rule, the section of the Petroleum Act, 1934, or the Schedule that settles it.
The classes and the licence-free limits sit in the Act (ss.2 and 7 to 9); the Rules carry the forms, sheds, tank vehicles and the First Schedule fees. Licence fees are those of Part A as substituted on 10 August 2018, not the 2002 table that PESO's own consolidated copy still prints (read 26 October 2026).
Learn the numbers by rule: 23, 65 and 93 degrees, 2,500, 25,000 and 45,000 litres, and 300 and 30 litres move with the class. The traps and the checklist below end the page.
Every question rests on the Petroleum Rules, 2002 (PESO's consolidated text, G.S.R. 204(E) of 13 March 2002), the amending Gazettes of 2011, 2018 and 4 March 2024, the Petroleum Act, 1934 and PESO's own procedure notes, as read on 25 and 26 October 2026. The questions are Flamekite's own, not past papers. No exam notice read for this site names the Petroleum Rules as a syllabus topic. Nothing here is legal advice; the Rules are amended from time to time, so check the current Gazette before acting on a figure.

Petroleum Rules MCQ: how Flamekite's exam pages treat the topic
None of the exam notices read for this site names the Petroleum Rules, so this bank is practice for a job, not a paper prediction.
- Telangana Fire Fighter, 2026
- The written tests name general topics such as English, arithmetic and reasoning. The Petroleum Rules are not named. TSLPRB notice 189/2026
- AAI Junior Assistant (Fire Services)
- The notices print no topic-wise syllabus, number of questions or marks per subject, so the Petroleum Rules cannot be claimed as tested. AAI NR 01/2025
- Fire safety and licensing roles
- Work with fuel stores, depots and pumps meets these Rules directly. Flamekite's petroleum rules page teaches them clause by clause; check any notice's own list before relying on this bank. Petroleum Rules 2002
Petroleum Rules MCQ: 6 common traps and the rule that settles each
Six mix-ups that cost marks, each settled by one section, rule or Gazette.
You may have read
Up to 2,500 litres of petrol can be kept without a licence.
Myth
What the sources say
2,500 litres is the Class B limit (s.7). Class A not for sale is exempt only to 30 litres (s.8); above that the District Authority's Form XII applies up to 300 litres. Petroleum Act (PESO)
You may have read
Class C up to 45,000 litres needs nothing at all.
Myth
What the sources say
No licence is needed, but rules 136 to 140 apply, and storing over 5,000 litres needs a prior report to the Chief Controller with a scrutiny fee. Petroleum Rules 2002
You may have read
A Form XII licence costs Rs 200 a year.
Myth
What the sources say
Rs 200 is the 2002 figure. Part A as substituted by G.S.R. 762(E) of 10 August 2018 makes it Rs 1,000. PESO's consolidated copy still prints the old table. G.S.R. 762(E), 2018
You may have read
A tank truck is limited to 25 KL.
Myth
What the sources say
G.S.R. 857(E) of 2011 raised rule 64(3) to 40 KL for a tank truck or semi-trailer. PESO's copy still prints 25 KL. G.S.R. 857(E), 2011
You may have read
Anything with a flash point above 65 °C is Class C.
Myth
What the sources say
Class C ends below 93 °C. From 93 °C the product is outside Chapter I (s.11) and the Rules do not license it. Petroleum Act (PESO)
You may have read
Section 23 now carries a crore-rupee fine.
Myth
What the sources say
The Act's fine is still Rs 1,000 (Rs 5,000 on repeat). Neither Jan Vishwas Act changed it, and a larger ceiling appears only in a 2026 draft Bill. Jan Vishwas Act 2026
