Overview

This bank holds 44 multiple-choice questions on the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016, in four sets: scope and definitions (10), marking and colours (11), licences and storage (12), and transport and testing (11). Every explanation names the rule, the Schedule, the IS colour table or the amending Gazette that settles it.

The Rules are made under the Explosives Act, 1884 and cover every compressed gas in cylinders, not only LPG. The amended position is tested where it matters: the cylinder definition of 12 November 2025, the cascade distances of 11 April 2025, the Schedule V fees of 9 June 2025 and the omission of rule 48 on 5 June 2026 (read 26 October 2026).

Learn the numbers by rule: 200, 25 and 5 cylinders in rule 44, 12 hours for an accident notice, and 5% of tare weight for condemnation. The traps and the checklist below end the page.

Every question rests on the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016 (G.S.R. 1081(E) of 22 November 2016, PESO's bilingual copy), the amending Gazettes of 2025 and 2026, PESO's licensing procedure notes, IS 4379:1981 and IS 3933:1966 as published by Public.Resource.Org, and s.9B of the Explosives Act, 1884, as read on 25 and 26 October 2026. The questions are Flamekite's own, not past papers. No exam notice read for this site names these Rules as a syllabus topic. Nothing here is legal advice; the Rules are amended often, so check the current Gazette before acting on a figure.

Gas Cylinder Rules MCQ: how Flamekite's exam pages treat the topic

None of the exam notices read for this site names the Gas Cylinders Rules, so this bank is practice for a job, not a paper prediction.

Telangana Fire Fighter, 2026
The written tests name general topics such as English, arithmetic and reasoning. These Rules are not named. TSLPRB notice 189/2026
AAI Junior Assistant (Fire Services)
The notices print no topic-wise syllabus, so these Rules cannot be claimed as tested. AAI NR 01/2025

Work with LPG godowns, oxygen plants and gas stores meets these Rules directly. Flamekite's gas cylinder rules page teaches them clause by clause; check any notice's own list before relying on this bank. Gas Cylinders Rules

Gas Cylinder Rules MCQ: 6 common traps and the rule that settles each

Six mix-ups that cost marks, each settled by one rule, schedule or Gazette.

  • You may have read

Anyone may keep 25 cylinders of any gas for own use.

    Myth

    What the sources say

Rule 44(b) differs by gas: 200 non-flammable non-toxic, 25 cylinders or 200 kg flammable (whichever is less), 5 toxic and 25 dissolved acetylene. Sale or trading is never exempt. Gas Cylinders Rules

  • You may have read

A cylinder owner may repaint a cylinder in any colour.

    Myth

    What the sources say

Rule 8(3) allows a colour change only on repainting for maintenance or conversion. Colours follow IS 4379 for industrial and IS 3933 for medical gases. Gas Cylinders Rules

  • You may have read

A District Authority NOC under rule 48 is still needed for filling and storing.

    Myth

    What the sources say

G.S.R. 447(E) of 5 June 2026 omitted rule 48. PESO's licensing procedure of January 2025 predates the change and still lists it. G.S.R. 447(E) of 2026

  • You may have read

Every gas cylinder can be up to 3,000 litres.

    Myth

    What the sources say

Since G.S.R. 839(E) of 12 November 2025 the general ceiling is 1,000 litres. 3,000 litres applies to CNG and hydrogen within 80 cm and nitrogen and air within 60 cm. G.S.R. 839(E) of 2025

  • You may have read

The Rules print a hydrostatic test interval for each gas.

    Myth

    What the sources say

Rule 35(1) refers to IS 15975 or a Chief Controller approval and prints no interval table. The IS 15975 intervals are not confirmed here. Gas Cylinders Rules

  • You may have read

The Form H fee of Rs 10,000 certainly still applies.

    Myth

    What the sources say

G.S.R. 225(E) of 11 April 2025 inserted it, but Schedule V as substituted on 9 June 2025 prints only Forms D, E, F and G. Whether it survives is not confirmed. G.S.R. 386(E) of 2025

Gas Cylinder Rules MCQ: 10-point revision checklist

Ten items to tick before you attempt the 44 questions again.

  • G.S.R. 1081(E) of 22 November 2016, under the Explosives Act, 1884; it replaced the 2004 Rules. Gas Cylinders Rules
  • A cylinder is over 500 ml and up to 1,000 litres; 3,000 litres for CNG and hydrogen within 80 cm and nitrogen and air within 60 cm. G.S.R. 839(E) of 2025
  • Compressed gas above 2.5 kgf/cm² absolute at 15 °C; cryogenic below -150 °C; toxic at or below 100 mg/m³. Gas Cylinders Rules
  • Colours: oxygen black, acetylene maroon, LPG signal red (IS 4379); medical oxygen white valve end over black body (IS 3933). IS 4379:1981
  • New gases: white shell, none for non-flammable non-toxic, yellow toxic, red flammable, both bands for both (rule 8(2)). Gas Cylinders Rules
  • Rule 44 own use: 200, 25 cylinders or 200 kg, 5 and 25 by gas; Chief Controller at Nagpur for toxic and flammable Forms E and F. PESO GCR SOP
  • Forms E to H run to 30 September, up to 10 years; Form D up to 1 year (rule 51). Gas Cylinders Rules
  • Rule 48 omitted on 5 June 2026; Form F condition 8A allows certified racks or cages for industrial gas. G.S.R. 447(E) of 2026
  • Form F: 3.0 m clear around toxic and non-LPG flammable sheds, 2.0 m fence, 1 m or a partition between flammable and oxidising gas. Gas Cylinders Rules
  • Condemn at over 5% tare loss; CNG life 20 years; stretch test held 30 seconds; accident notice within 12 hours. Gas Cylinders Rules

Gas Cylinder Rules MCQ: where to read the rule behind each answer

Four Flamekite pages teach the topics in these 44 questions.

Gas Cylinder Rules MCQ: what is not confirmed

Three points a reader may expect are not settled in the sources read, so no question tests them.

  • If Periodic test intervals by gas

Rule 35(1) points to IS 15975:2020, a paid BIS standard that was not read. No interval is published and no question tests one. Gas Cylinders Rules

  • If The Form H fee

G.S.R. 225(E) of 11 April 2025 inserted Rs 10,000, but the Schedule V of 9 June 2025 does not print it. Ask PESO before quoting a fee. G.S.R. 386(E) of 2025

  • If The mobile refuelling amendment of 21 September 2026

G.S.R. 831(E) adds Form G condition 22 for CNG and CBG mobile refuelling units. It is too new and too specialised for a question here; read the Gazette. G.S.R. 831(E) of 2026
